Ding Hai Day Pillar

A candle standing near water, always shielding its own small flame. Watchful and sensitive, and still burning because of it.

Earth laid on a roof — high up, not heavy, and it shelters whoever is underneath.

In the sixty-pillar cycle each image is shared by exactly two pillars. 丁亥 shares Earth on the Rooftop with 丙戌, though the two differ in polarity, animal and hidden stems.

Dīng carries the image of candlelight. That is this pillar's baseline; the branch it is paired with decides the rest.

Hài is Water, yin in polarity, and carries the Pig.

Hidden stems: every branch conceals stems of its own, in descending weight — Rén Water (70%), Jiǎ Wood (30%).
