Dew on dry ground: what it gives is absorbed and gone. Gives a great deal, hears back little, and needs to choose where it spends itself.

Willow bends with the wind and straightens after it — yielding is how it survives.

In the sixty-pillar cycle each image is shared by exactly two pillars. 癸未 shares Willow Wood with 壬午, though the two differ in polarity, animal and hidden stems.

Guǐ carries the image of rain, dew, a spring underground. That is this pillar's baseline; the branch it is paired with decides the rest.

Wèi is Earth, yin in polarity, and carries the Goat.

Hidden stems: every branch conceals stems of its own, in descending weight — Jǐ Earth (60%), Dīng Fire (30%), Yǐ Wood (10%).
