Ren Xu Day Pillar

A sea with land all around it — vast and bounded, and skilled at operating inside the limit rather than against it.

The open sea — unmeasurable depth, and room for everything that reaches it.

In the sixty-pillar cycle each image is shared by exactly two pillars. 壬戌 shares Water of the Great Sea with 癸亥, though the two differ in polarity, animal and hidden stems.

Rén carries the image of a river, the open sea. That is this pillar's baseline; the branch it is paired with decides the rest.

Xū is Earth, yang in polarity, and carries the Dog.

Hidden stems: every branch conceals stems of its own, in descending weight — Wù Earth (60%), Xīn Metal (30%), Dīng Fire (10%).
