Ji Hai Day Pillar

A field with a stream running through it: it channels and stores, turning something passing through into its own harvest.

A tree on open ground — nothing sheltering it, so everything depends on its own roots.

In the sixty-pillar cycle each image is shared by exactly two pillars. 己亥 shares Trees on Level Ground with 戊戌, though the two differ in polarity, animal and hidden stems.

Jǐ carries the image of cultivated field soil. That is this pillar's baseline; the branch it is paired with decides the rest.

Hài is Water, yin in polarity, and carries the Pig.
