Ji Si Day Pillar

Cultivated soil warmed by fire — the heat is what makes it fertile. Past a point warmth turns to drought, and knowing where that point is matters.

Not one tree but a forest: slow to mature, and worth the wait.

In the sixty-pillar cycle each image is shared by exactly two pillars. 己巳 shares Timber of the Great Forest with 戊辰, though the two differ in polarity, animal and hidden stems.

Jǐ carries the image of cultivated field soil. That is this pillar's baseline; the branch it is paired with decides the rest.

Sì is Fire, yin in polarity, and carries the Snake.

Hidden stems: every branch conceals stems of its own, in descending weight — Bǐng Fire (60%), Wù Earth (30%), Gēng Metal (10%).
