Jia Xu Day Pillar

A tree on a dry slope. It can root there and it can also exhaust the ground: independent, and worth watching that it doesn't strip what sustains it.

A fire on a summit: it sees far and is seen from far, reaching past its actual size.

In the sixty-pillar cycle each image is shared by exactly two pillars. 甲戌 shares Fire on the Mountaintop with 乙亥, though the two differ in polarity, animal and hidden stems.

Jiǎ carries the image of a tall standing tree. That is this pillar's baseline; the branch it is paired with decides the rest.

Xū is Earth, yang in polarity, and carries the Dog.

Hidden stems: every branch conceals stems of its own, in descending weight — Wù Earth (60%), Xīn Metal (30%), Dīng Fire (10%).
