Jia Shen Day Pillar

An axe at the trunk. Cut back and held to standards early and often — and shaped by it sooner than most.

A spring: not a lot of water, but it never stops, and it comes up clean.

In the sixty-pillar cycle each image is shared by exactly two pillars. 甲申 shares Water of the Spring with 乙酉, though the two differ in polarity, animal and hidden stems.

Jiǎ carries the image of a tall standing tree. That is this pillar's baseline; the branch it is paired with decides the rest.

Shēn is Metal, yang in polarity, and carries the Monkey.

Hidden stems: every branch conceals stems of its own, in descending weight — Gēng Metal (60%), Rén Water (30%), Wù Earth (10%).
