Yi Chou Day Pillar

A vine gripping frozen ground. The earth gives nothing, so it holds on instead of digging in: endurance rather than force, and it does not let go.

Metal still on the seabed: valuable, but not yet brought up into the light.

In the sixty-pillar cycle each image is shared by exactly two pillars. 乙丑 shares Gold in the Sea with 甲子, though the two differ in polarity, animal and hidden stems.

Yǐ carries the image of a climbing vine. That is this pillar's baseline; the branch it is paired with decides the rest.

Chǒu is Earth, yin in polarity, and carries the Ox.

Hidden stems: every branch conceals stems of its own, in descending weight — Jǐ Earth (60%), Guǐ Water (30%), Xīn Metal (10%).
