Friend (比肩)

One of the Ten Gods in BaZi, the Chinese Four Pillars of Destiny

Peer — your own elementsame element as you, same polaritysame polarity

A stem of your own element and your own polarity — someone standing on the same line as you: a sibling, a classmate, a peer in your field. What Friend gives you is the conviction that you can handle it yourself: your own mind, your own footing, and no great urge to ask.

Strengths

  • Independent — decisions do not need a committee
  • Self-respecting, and does what it said it would
  • Loyal in the friendships that do take

Where it costs you

Too much Friend and nobody gets to be more right than you. It is not that you dislike people; it is that conceding someone knows better comes hard, and that is exactly when you most need to ask.

Too much, too little

Too much: Stubborn, deaf to advice, stuck in collaborations — and resources quietly split away.

Too little: No centre of gravity; every decision needs someone else's blessing first.

No god here is lucky or unlucky — only abundant or scarce. The same one can be support or burden depending on the balance of the whole chart.

How this differs from Rob Wealth (劫财)

Friend (比肩) and Rob Wealth (劫财) are both Peer — your own element; the only difference is polarity — this one is same element as you, same polarity, the other same element as you, opposite polarity. Matching polarity repels and opposing polarity attracts, which is why this god acts more bluntly and with less give.

Which stem is your Friend (比肩)?

A god is defined relative to your Day Master, so the same stem plays a different god for different people. By Day Master:
