Hurting Officer (伤官)

One of the Ten Gods in BaZi, the Chinese Four Pillars of Destiny

Output — what you generatewhat you generate, opposite polarityopposite polarity

Output again, but with an edge. Hurting Officer is visible talent, accurate speech, and an eye for the flaw nobody else has named — which is also why it takes direction badly. The 'hurting' in the name is what it does to Direct Officer: rules and authority.

Strengths

  • Talent that shows immediately
  • Sees the actual problem and can say it
  • Will not settle; the standard stays high

Where it costs you

The trouble with Hurting Officer is never ability, it is relationships. You are usually right, and being right in the wrong room is billed at the same rate as being wrong.

Too much, too little

Too much: Clashes with anyone senior, says the unsayable, and cycles through being underused.

Too little: Has the thought and buries it; files the edge down too far.

No god here is lucky or unlucky — only abundant or scarce. The same one can be support or burden depending on the balance of the whole chart.

How this differs from Eating God (食神)

Hurting Officer (伤官) and Eating God (食神) are both Output — what you generate; the only difference is polarity — this one is what you generate, opposite polarity, the other what you generate, same polarity. Matching polarity repels and opposing polarity attracts, which is why this god acts more moderately and with more reason.
