Indirect Resource (偏印)

One of the Ten Gods in BaZi, the Chinese Four Pillars of Destiny

Resource — what generates youwhat generates you, same polaritysame polarity

What nourishes you, in its unorthodox form. Indirect Resource is intuition, obscure knowledge, thinking done alone — metaphysics, research, the technical and the sideways-artistic. What it gives is not warmth but insight.

Strengths

  • Intuition that arrives ahead of the reasoning
  • Tolerates solitude and goes deep
  • Naturally drawn to what few people study

Where it costs you

Indirect Resource thinks more than it makes. It pulls energy inward, and past a point inward becomes self-consuming — most of all at the moment asking for help would have solved it.

Too much, too little

Too much: Suspicious, solitary, over-thought; output suffocated before it is finished.

Too little: No reflection; everything runs on past experience alone.

No god here is lucky or unlucky — only abundant or scarce. The same one can be support or burden depending on the balance of the whole chart.

How this differs from Direct Resource (正印)

Indirect Resource (偏印) and Direct Resource (正印) are both Resource — what generates you; the only difference is polarity — this one is what generates you, same polarity, the other what generates you, opposite polarity. Matching polarity repels and opposing polarity attracts, which is why this god acts more bluntly and with less give.

Which stem is your Indirect Resource (偏印)?

A god is defined relative to your Day Master, so the same stem plays a different god for different people. By Day Master:
